Description
This top-quality dry Riesling comes from the Saar's amphitheater – the world-famous Ockfener Bockstein vineyard. The must, obtained from fully ripened grapes growing on quartz-rich grey slate soil, was aged in large wooden casks. An incredibly complex and profound aroma, with notes of apricot, lemon curd, roasted walnuts, tobacco, and flint, as well as a delicate hint of vanilla. With some aeration, the oak influence diminishes, while the bouquet becomes increasingly crisp and saline, with aromas of preserved lemons and a fine, tobacco-like scent of precious wood reminiscent of a well-kept humidor. On the palate, the wine displays an impressive structure, appearing very elegant and completely dry. Cool, smoky notes and a salty-mineral freshness complement the taste experience, which culminates in a long finish with recurring tobacco and toasty notes. A worthy successor to the 2019 vintage – undoubtedly not a typical dry Saar Riesling, but rather a masterful Burgundian interpretation of it!
The salty-mineral freshness and the excellent structure of the wine harmonize wonderfully with grilled or fried fish, braised veal or mature cheeses such as a creamy Brie or an aromatic Comté.
BOCKSTEIN | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®
Like an amphitheater, the silvery-grey slate slope of the Ockfener Bockstein opens up, one of the classic vineyard sites of the Saar. Accordingly, the wine presents itself in typical fashion with the unmistakable fruit of Riesling, delicately spicy, characterful and subtle.
