Family connection to the Othegraven winery

Günther Jauch is not only one of Germany's best-known journalists and TV presenters – he also has close ties to the Othegraven winery. These ties go back well beyond 2010, when he and his wife Thea took over the traditional winery on the Saar.

The von Othegraven winery has been in the family since 1805. Günther Jauch's grandmother was born a von Othegraven, and her brother Maximilian continued to run the estate for decades. Even as a child, Günther Jauch spent a lot of time in Kanzem on the Saar – a place that continues to influence him to this day.

Takeover of the winery in 2010

In 2010, Günther Jauch and his wife Thea took over the Othegraven winery from Dr. Heidi Kegel. The traditional estate has been family-owned since 1805 and is now run by Günther and Thea Jauch, the seventh generation of the family.

The takeover was not a new beginning in the traditional sense, but rather a conscious continuation of a long history. Tradition, heritage, and the special Saar vineyards have been the focus from the very beginning—as has a respectful approach to nature and heritage.

Günther Jauch's role in the winery

Günther Jauch does not see himself as a winemaker in the operational sense. The daily work in the vineyard and cellar is in the hands of an experienced team. His role is that of a guardian, promoter, and long-term companion to the winery.

The focus is always on preserving the identity of the Othegraven winery and consistently maintaining the quality of the wines—without following fashionable trends, but with a clear focus on origin and style.
