Description
A top-quality dry Riesling from the largest contiguous steep vineyard in Europe – the Kanzemer Altenberg. The grapes used were fully ripe and grown on the characteristically iron-rich, red slate soil, with the must then partially aged in large wooden barrels. A charming and incredibly fragrant bouquet with yellow fruit aromas of quince, fully ripe mirabelle plums, and mandarin orange, accompanied by delicate floral hints and Mediterranean herbal notes reminiscent of thyme and rosemary. On the palate, this Grand Cru is wonderfully full-bodied, with a noble, silky-smooth texture, ripe acidity, and a pronounced mineral backbone. The finish is impressively complex and long-lasting with subtle nutty and yeasty notes.
A well-balanced, dry Riesling with great balance and expression, which goes perfectly with grilled fish, veal fillet or a porcini mushroom risotto.
ALTENBERG | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®
Like a monumental cliff face, the Kanzemer Altenberg vineyard stands in perfect south-southeast orientation. As in all Othegraven vineyards, Devonian slate is the defining element, in the Altenberg with traces of iron oxide. A noble wine grows here, mineral and warm at the same time, with inner grandeur and utterly self-contained.
